Társilo Girona is a Ramón y Cajal Researcher at Geosciences Barcelona (GEO3BCN-CSIC), where he leads the SISMOVEGA research project. Following his PhD at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, he conducted research at the Earth Observatory of Singapore, Georgia Institute of Technology, Brown University, NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, and the Geophysical Institute at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. In 2025, he joined Geosciences Barcelona (GEO3BCN-CSIC) as a Ramón y Cajal Researcher.

Girona combines seismic and geochemical observations with satellite data, numerical modelling, field and laboratory experiments, and artificial intelligence techniques. A particular focus of his current research is the detection of subtle thermal changes at active volcanoes, volcanic monitoring, and the development of new approaches for the early detection of eruptions. He also investigates natural hazards such as earthquakes and develops innovative methods for monitoring and assessing geological risks.

Társilo Girona is a member of the CAS Research Group “Enabling Deep Earth Access,” led by Prof. Dr. Yan Lavallée. In 2026/27, he is a Visiting Fellow at CAS.
